Gemicer Becomes Connex Technology
Maker of the ConnexArray Digital Image Processing Platform Changes Name to Reflect Core Technology
MANCHESTER, N.H. — May 24, 2004 — Gemicer, Inc., developer of the ConnexArray™ digital image processing platform, has changed its name to Connex Technology, reflecting both the high interest its breakthrough core technology has received in the industry as well as the importance of the company’s flagship product to its overall business.
Connex Technology is a fabless semiconductor company developing groundbreaking image processing platforms that enable exciting new capabilities in digital imaging and video. ConnexArray, its flagship technology, powers cost effective digital image processors, offering high-throughput capabilities (more than 200 megapixels per second) and low power consumption (less than 4 milliwatts per megapixel per second). ConnexArray enables the highest resolution and fastest execution of all the latest and most complex, image processing algorithms.
ConnexArray is a breakthrough convergence of established architectures that combines the performance of digital signal processors (DSPs) with the efficiency and flexibility of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
“Every consumer electronics OEM is being forced to re-evaluate their dependence on custom integrated circuits, or ASICs,” said Paul Conley, president and founding CEO of Connex Technology. “Upfront investment in a single ASIC can exceed $6M and time to market can reach 12 to 18 months. Although DSP solutions overcome some of the increasing difficulties and limitations of an ASIC solution, they cannot achieve the performance/power efficiency of an ASIC. Consumer electronics manufacturers need quicker time to market and more agility in responding to competitive threats. They also need competitive performance and battery life. They need a software-programmable signal processing platform that doesn’t compromise on performance or power efficiency. Connex Technology, with its ConnexArray™ Architecture and CATalyst™ Software Development environment, can offer this.”
Founded in April 2002 by an international team of engineers and scientists from both academia and industry, Connex Technology brings together experts in processor architecture, compiler design and -digital imaging to offer OEMs an alternative to existing digital image processing technology without the compromises found in the two leading approaches. The programmability of ConnexArray based imaging platforms allows OEM’s to rapidly migrate their own intellectual property in the form of imaging algorithms and pipelines, to this architecture, yet retain the high performance/power efficiency of their current ASIC designs. The company closed its Series A funding in April 2003 with Adams Capital Management (www.acm.com) as the lead investor.
Connex Technology unveiled its new logo and website today. The
parallel multihued planes of red, green and blue (RGB) comprising the
‘E’ in the Connex logo reflect the parallel processing and
digital imaging capabilities of the company’s core technology.
