Portable Heavy Duty Scales

Portable heavy duty scales are necessary for weighing processes where it is simpler and more efficient to move the scale rather than the item to be weighed. Portable heavy duty scales have very similar functions to as other scales and are just as accurate. Often, the only real difference between a portable heavy duty scale and a typical heavy duty scale is the feature of portability. This type of portable scale will frequently be significantly lighter weight than its immobile heavy duty counterparts. Portable heavy duty scales are often outfitted with wheels or handles, but some are simply portable by design, such as hanging scales. All portable heavy duty scales run off of battery power.

Portable heavy duty scales are very useful in a variety of industrial, agricultural, and commercial applications, where their mobile design makes them an attractive and convenient option. Because they can weigh on the go, farmers love portable heavy duty scales for weighing livestock or large amounts of crops right in the field. In factory settings, portable heavy duty scales can weigh virtually any item on the spot. Often, several similar items may be weighed at a time, as it is more common than ever that portable heavy duty scales are designed with counting capabilities.

Because they need to be able to go almost anywhere, portable heavy duty scales are very durable and can withstand even harsh conditions. Portable scales are great at absorbing shock, and usually have very few moving parts and a welded frame. Water resistance is also very important in a portable scale, which are usually at least part made with stainless steel materials, especially in areas around load sensors. Almost without exception, these scales come with detachable displays. The best heavy duty scales on the market have the newest in scale technology. Ethernet connections, memory logs, and USB ports are the most highly valued features.

Different types of portable heavy duty scales:

  • Platform scales. These highly durable and shock resistant scales usually have very low profile platforms so the object can be placed on them using as little effort as necessary. Platform scales work by utilizing four stainless steel load cells which are welded into the frame. Typically, a portable heavy duty platform scale is transported from place to place on wheels.
  • Drum scales. Drums are very simply weighed by using portable drum scales. These scales weigh drums with stainless steel sensors. Typically, the scale has a very low profile and is outfitted with a ramp to simplify the process of getting the drums onto the drum scale. Some have side rails but these are not preferred, as the rails can get in the way of the loading of very large drums.
  • Hanging scales. A hanging scale can be used anywhere that has a crane, cable, or other object from which it can be suspended. Heavy duty hanging scales weigh using mid-air suspension. This type of scale is very accurate.
