 Industrial Scales are wherever there's industry. Industry makes things. These things may be chemicals, or food products, or electronic parts, or metal pieces, or anything that the human mind can imagine. These things have to be formulated, mixed, processed, counted, packaged, shipped and received. None of this could happen without the appropriate industrial scale.
Because of the huge range of different kinds of industrial processes that exist, there must also be a wide range of different types of industrial scales. Laboratory scales are used to measure minute amounts of ingredients. Depending on the accuracy that is required, the lab scale may be an inexpensive bench top device, or an extremely precise laboratory instrument that comes with shields to avoid air movement and its own protective housing. Larger batches of materials, up to about 100 lb, call for bench scales. Once again, different situations will call for different accuracies. Whereas the standard industrial bench scale provides excellent accuracy levels of 1/10 of 1%, ultra precision scales provide amazing accuracy levels of 1/100 of 1% or greater.
These bench scales may provide output signals that can be used by other equipment in the manufacturing effort. The signals may be used for batching purposes, by turning on and off devices such as pumps, feeders, valves, and others. The weight data itself can be sent using almost any standard communication protocol, including USB and Ethernet. Alternatively, USB memory sticks may be utilized as dataloggers, storing thousands of scale readings.
Similarly, platform scales can include all of the features noted, but with larger weight capacities. There are a wide variety of different platform sizes available to match the size of the items being weighed. As the loads become harder to maneuver, it becomes more important to provide a platform scale with a low profile. Once again, when unusually high accuracy levels are required, ultra precision platform scales may be chosen.
Other specialty industrial scales are also available. Large Floor Scales can weigh loads up to 10 tons or more. Drum scales and cylinder scales are appropriate for those purposes. Parts counting scales offer a precise method for determining the number of parts, which is particularly useful for the electronics and hardware industries. Corrosion resistant scales are needed for certain industries and explosive environment scales, also known as intrinsically safe scales or hazardous area scales, are needed where there are flammable or explosive materials or fumes.
A wide variety of scales are available for the agricultural industry, including livestock scales, veterinary scales, animal scales, and pig sorting scales.
