  • food processing
  • medical care
  • chemical plants
  • outdoor use
  • veterinary use
  • many industrial manufacturing
  • shipping and receiving
  • laboratories
  • pharmacies
  • livestock farming

In many of these applications, a scale is used as an integral part of their daily operations. Thus, they require a scale that is both highly accurate (such as a digital one), and one that is well built to hold up to the rigors of a work environment in which various kinds of liquids may come in contact with the surface of the device.

The following are additional features you should look for in a digital waterproof scale:

  • Measurements in grams, pounds, pound/ounces or just ounces
  • Stainless steel construction, including load sensors
  • Easily portable
  • Automatic zero tare function
  • Full scale pushbutton operation for tare and zero
  • Compensation for temperature and humidity
  • Clear LCD display
  • Battery or AC operation
  • Automatic power-down after five minutes of inactivity, in order to lengthen battery life
  • Welded housing of the display (to protect the sensitive part of the equipment)

For heavy-duty waterproof digital scales, look for stainless steel load sensors; they will provide much better durability, consistency, overload protection and rust/corrosion resistance than the less-expensive aluminum or nickel-plated load cells of lower-priced scales. You want to make sure that if you are weighing livestock for instance, the shock and pressure of a heifer stepping on to the device will not wear out it’s all important load sensors too soon. After all, an industrial quality waterproof scale is a hefty investment.

Even a lighter-duty scale (such as a foodservice scale) should include a rubber gasket around the enclosure for the digital display, for added water resistance. Some waterproof digital scales
