Alpaca Scales - Industrial and Commercial
Alpaca Scales are important tools in helping to treat alpacas and in keeping them healthy. Medication dosage levels are based on the weight of the animal. This is especially the case with alpacas and llamas. Also, healthy animals should be within a range of body weight. These Livestock Scales have a number of important characteristics, including being “animal-friendly”, the platform size and capacity, accuracy, durability and cost. Generally, any of the first four may be improved, but only be increasing the cost. - Animal Friendly – Alpacas are generally not comfortable stepping up onto a platform scales. This is particularly the case with crias, the baby animals. These Livestock Scales feature an extremely low profile, making it easy to lead the animal onto the platform. A rubber mat provides additional comfort. Additionally, the mat may be easily hosed down, when necessary.
- Platform Size and Capacity– The Alpaca Scale platform can accommodate most alpacas very comfortably. The larger Llama Scale will handle even the very largest animal. The weight capacity is 500 lb, which is more than is required.
- Accuracy – Leading edge electronics coupled with specialized alloy stainless steel load cells result in platform scales with high levels of accuracy and repeatability. A sensitivity of 1/10 of 1 lb allows accurate weighing of even the smallest puppies and kittens. An “Animal Average” button will accurately determine the correct weight of an animal that will not stand still on the scale platform.
- Durability – Most platform scales with these capacities are made from sheet metal. Instead, for superior durability, welded construction is used throughout these scales. Most platform scales use painted steel components. Instead, these platform scales use stainless steel for the load cells, and aluminum for the body, offering excellent rust protection.
